Salzmann’s pioneering wingsuit flight, aided by a specially designed foil wing, marked a significant advancement in the discipline of sustained soaring. Harnessing rising air along a mountain ridge, he achieved controlled, level flight at approximately 40 km/h. Remarkably, one of his flight passes along the ridgeline enabled him to gain 67 meters of altitude – the equivalent of a 22-story building – demonstrating that soaring is achievable even in moderate wind conditions.
