ADEAM And ADEAM ICHI Present Its New Fall/Winter 2024 Collection

“Made in Japan” can bring to mind many things, but for me, it’s synonymous with exquisite artistry. From ADEAM’s early days, we’ve been steadfast in our commitment to shining a spotlight on Japanese craftsmanship. This season is no exception. The focus of Fall/Winter 2024 was a meticulous exploration of tailoring, where designs embraced a more subdued elegance, allowing impeccably constructed sharp silhouettes to rightfully take center stage.
To create visual interest that didn’t rely on embellishments, I returned to the concept of duality, a recurring theme in ADEAM’s design philosophy. We blend contrasting elements: the masculine with the feminine, the structured with the fluid, and the elegant with the edgy. This juxtaposition is not intended to emphasize dissimilarities but to delve into the innate synergy of these ostensibly conflicting styles.
The opening looks are prime examples of this idea. Paired with the pinstripe Louise jacket, the Ruth Skirt complicates the traditional suit set with the addition of asymmetrical pleating, which adds fluidity to sharp architectural tailoring. The Jane top, which comes in the same pinstripe fabric, features exposed shoulders and ribbon-like adjustable ties that add sensuality to an otherwise minimal form. Together, the seemingly disparate elements create a cohesive narrative.
Outerwear follows suit, appearing in streamlined forms adorned with subtle details. The double-faced wool Marion Coat and the Audrey Cape Coat gain dimension through bold faux leather trims in contrasting hues. The boxy trucker-style Julia jacket, which comes in buttery faux leather and Japanese selvage denim, derives intrigue from its distinct fabrication.
For ADEAM ICHI, it seemed only natural to shoot the Fall/Winter collection in the streets of Tokyo, from which the collection draws so much of its inspiration. This season, we focused on the real-world application of our garments, capturing the essence of how customers infuse our pieces into their streetwear.
In Japan, layering isn’t just a style trend but an art form. We paid meticulous attention to the necklines and cuffs of sweaters—such as the shoulder cutouts in the Nora sweater—to ensure that the layers worn beneath peak out in visually captivating ways. Layering allows wearers the flexibility to calibrate the pieces to match their style, seamlessly transitioning the same items from refined preppy to eclectic Tokyo streetwear to rugged outdoor aesthetics.
Craft is also celebrated in ICHI. The chunky Alva Knit Vest, woven with a blend of traditional matte and metallic yarns, reclaims the preppy sweater vest and turns it into something that looks more homespun. The Kai sweater, adorned with hand-stitched details around the seam, invites the wearer to envision the artisan’s hands-on engagement with their materials.
Select pieces from the main line, including the vegan leather Diane skirt and sweatshirt ponte Halle Jacket, are styled with the ICHI pieces, showcasing the fluidity and versatility of both collections. This season, I had a lot of fun exploring the juxtapositions that define ADEAM’s aesthetic. My hope was to present a harmonious interplay of styles and an artful blend of contrasts, all while paying homage to the rich traditions of Japanese craftsmanship.
