Set within the museum’s Monumental exhibition room, the show drew direct inspiration from Edvard Munch’s iconic masterpiece “Solen” (The Sun), which also formed the backdrop of the runway. This dialogue between contemporary fashion and timeless art created a moment of rare cultural significance—an encounter of luxury design, avant-garde performance, and artistic heritage.

An Immersive Runway Experience

Breaking from the traditional catwalk format, the show unfolded through a three-part choreography by Jonas Øren, accompanied by a stripped-down live performance by electronic musician Gundelach.
Audience members were seated in a square formation, facing Munch’s monumental works, while the music remained hidden at the center of the room. This design choice immersed the viewers in a personal, contemplative journey—where fashion, sound, and art converged into a singular sensory experience.

The Vision Behind "SOLEN"

“After our first visit, we immediately felt a pull towards the Monumental exhibition room, where Solen is displayed,” explained Cathrine Børter, founder and designer of Pearl Octopuss.y. “The sheer magnitude of the paintings made it feel like an almost sacred space. We really wanted to channel that energy into the collection.”

Exploring themes of repetition, contrast, contradiction, and balance, the SS26 designs reflect both Munch’s universe and Pearl Octopuss.y’s distinctive creative codes. Signature fringe details and rhinestone embellishments were reinterpreted alongside new handcrafted techniques such as macramé, knitwork, and hand-dyed textiles.

The result is the brand’s most ambitious collection to date—a bold expansion of its aesthetic language while remaining deeply anchored in craftsmanship and material experimentation.

Sustainability Meets Luxury

Continuing from last year’s celebrated “Eclipse” collection, the house once again balanced custom-made showpieces sewn in-house with upcycled second-hand and archival garments. This approach underscores the brand’s dedication to sustainable luxury, where heritage techniques meet contemporary innovation.
