The way we protect ourselves is the way we define: armor or adornment? The way we define armor or adornment is the way we use wit. The way we use wit reveals the way we see the world. The way we see the world affects the way we love ourselves. The way we love ourselves determines the way we love others. The way we love others is the way we affect the world. The way we affect the world is the way we carve our silhouettes and constrict ourselves with seams and unzip the spaces we need.
Some clothes see you before you see it. What is it that you’re looking for, what is it that you need? Some clothes are there to protect us, some there to project us. Forward motion into the rooms through the spaces and out the gates.
I want to want for nothing. I want to look forward to now. I want to see the road ahead clear as day and opened in light, because I wear the vehicle that gets me there. I am what I need. Do you hear our voice? It’s coming down the line. We see the way you look on these streets, looking at your watch, thinking it’s time to go home. Your hands going up to your head, pulling your hood down tight.
We see your fingers splayed and searching, reaching for pockets and high collars and systems that aren’t there. Eager for privacy, comfort, ease, structure. We see your need for versatility, variation, and the extremes at both ends of the spectrum. We took the architecture of emotionality and sewed its ends to life.
The Helmut Lang Fall/Winter 2024 collection is Peter Do’s second runway collection for the brand. Following the brand’s ethos to “Dress New York”, it places one of the foremost themes of life in the city, protection vs. projection, under the magnifying glass of a master craftsman. A collection of hyper-adaptable clothes, shoes, and bags that offer mega-protection as well as project who we are to the world arrive in a system of dressing based on everyday function in the street, placing endless combinations and new utilities in the hands of ambitious new yorkers.
