Cartier Launches Its Latest Necessaire À Parfum
Luxferity, 03.10.2022
Cartier’s latest Necessaire à Parfum pays tribute to the maison’s famous red case.
Launched a year ago, the Cartier Nécessaires à Parfum collection has been enriched with a geometric motif that infinitely echoes the shape of the Maison’s famous red case. Inextricably linked to its creative history, geometry is a powerful marker of Cartier’s style and draws on forms and patterns designed from the effects of symmetry and asymmetry. A graphic approach that puts the red case into perspective.
A NEW TRAVEL DESIGN
The Cartier Nécessaires à Parfum feature a new design for your pocket or bag: simple, original and modern, they are made to house all the Maison’s fragrances in 30 ml refillable glass bottles using a magnet inside the case. The magnetic mechanism has been specially developed to facilitate the flow of the fragrance. These ultra-thin, chic items are perfect for slipping into a pocket and carrying with you.
EXPERT PRECISION
Desirable in every way, the latest Nécessaire à Parfum is chiselled with a red lacquered motif. It takes more than seven steps to create this piece: from the intaglio metal engraving to filling it with lacquer, everything is completed by hand, colour by colour, cavity by cavity, before the piece is finally precision polished.
EVERYDAY OBJECTS
The Cartier Nécessaires à Parfum are designed to last, with multiple refills to choose from within an olfactory heritage that currently includes 27 fragrances: La Panthère, Déclaration, Baiser Volé, Pasha, Rivières, Oud & Santal, l’Heure Diaphane, Pur Magnolia. All are intended to be enhanced over the years, particularly given the potential of Les Heures de Parfum, but also with other fragrances that have marked Cartier’s history.
Infinite possibilities that allow you to change perfume at any time, from one day to the next, according to your desires.
A gift for yourself or for others that can be personalised with an engraving and whose case can also be hot stamped.
CARTIER AND THE LOVE OF BEAUTIFUL OBJECTS: A HISTORY OF ACCESSORIES AND STYLE
The new generation of Nécessaires à Parfum is inspired by Cartier vanity cases that date back to the beginning of the 20th century. Engraved, enamelled and lacquered, these perfectly proportioned objects are the expression of art de vivre. Taken from an era that was attentive to details and ultra-feminine gestures, everything about them conveys sophistication: going out, putting on make-up and those refreshing “touch-ups”.
A testimony to Cartier’s creativity between 1920 and 1930, the Nécessaire involves the close collaboration of many crafts – designers, case makers, marquetry craftsmen, carvers, lapidaries, setters, engravers, sometimes jewellers and even other ancestral, Asian or Oriental skills borrowed from the world of art. It all starts with the lacquer.
Enamel plays an equally important role in the manufacturing of Nécessaires. It became part of the Maison’s repertoire at the dawn of the 20th century. Cartier created its own colour palette: more understated tones – pink, mauve and grey – complemented by more vibrant tones – royal blue, thistle green or imperial green.
The large surface of the Nécessaire makes it perfect for ornamentation. With contrasting shapes, motifs from around the globe and an abundance of colours, the Nécessaire captures the essence of the Art Deco movement. From traditional foreign influences through to modern geometry, as well as Islamic art and Asian influences, Cartier has adapted motifs from near and far, the past and present, to harness their abstract power and liberate the graphic strength of the design.
Later, Cartier explored all the possibilities offered from working with gold, including guilloché. The precious metal takes full advantage of the light: when engraved, chiselled or gadrooned, it plays with the effects of vibration; when meticulously polished, it diffuses a solar radiance. The Maison even went on to mix different shades, such as yellow and rose gold, particularly in the 1960s.
“In fact, we don’t only produce luxury jewellery. I would say, Monsieur, that jewellery like ours is as capable of adorning a woman’s shoulders with a dazzling necklace as it is of filling her handbag with a powder compact, a mirror, a small comb or even business cards, all stamped with the same seal of originality and art.” - Jacques Cartier
