Alaïa Presents its New Summer-Fall 2024 Collection

I wanted to write a few words, ahead of our Summer-Fall show, to explain what you will see, and why we are here together.

This collection is about simplicity and purity, about less meaning more - about intimacy, about reducing to an essence, about finding a freedom and invention in that. It is a decision, a choice, not to minimise but to focus, to expand possibilities.

Everything you see is created with a single yarn.

For over a year we have been developing the fabrics of this collection. They are all based around a merino wool yarn, reinvented over and again with our textile and knitwear suppliers, who have worked with us for four decades. The entire collection is created using this yarn, their fabrics and expertise.

The collection is based on the curve, on the circle - the curves of women, and circles of friends, of chosen family, an idea essential to the essence of Alaïa. It was there with Azzedine always, like a heartbeat, and it remains. I collaborate, each season, with the ateliers, with the same creative team - Pat, Duffy, Ashley - and with Gustave Rudman to create music inspired by Alaïa, and in turn to inspire us. They are our family.

For this show, I wanted to bring us all together, to view everything up close - close together, close to the clothes. The space integrates the collection with design objects, because that fusion is at the very heart of the house’s identity. The lights overhead are Pelota, created by Marc Newson; the sofas you share are named Mollo, by Philippe Malouin.

I always want Alaïa to be about more than the clothes. Because it is about more than the clothes. It’s about life, about being together.
