Acne Studios Presents Its New Men’s Spring Summer 2025 Collection
Luxferity, 21.06.2024
“What if this season’s character was a superhero?,” says creative director Jonny Johansson. “I think what’s interesting with clothing is that it can empower you. I can feel really strong just having the right clothing at the right moment. That’s a little bit what I’m trying to do here, you know, that’s why that empowering thing is kind of like – it has superpowers!”

A collection rooted in childhood nostalgia and naivety. Memories of the comfort of adolescence, carried into adulthood. A fascination with comic books; a clash of cuteness and rebellion. The push and pull of growing up, formulating an identity: garments that appear bleached, laddered or spray painted, meet the symbols of adulthood – tailoring, fine wools, pinstripes. The collection also features a collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, seeing its archetypal female superheroes refracted and reimagined through various techniques, recalling the experimentation and obsessions of adolescence.

“When you are young, you have that special passion for something. You kind of drag it along with you your whole life, and it comes in and out of your weave of life. Sometimes it’s stronger, sometimes it’s less, but there’s moments where you pull out that superhero t-shirt. As you get older and more mature, you start accepting your heritage in some way and you become proud of it. That’s who this guy is,” continues Johansson, Creative Director of Acne Studios.

COLOUR PALETTE
Fiery, earthy shades of burnished orange, cognac and tobacco meet hazy candy pinks and powdery blues. Black, in a multitude of textures, runs throughout.

HOW ITS WORN
A mood of teenage comfort: hanging around in your pyjamas, not wanting to get dressed. Shifts in volume: wide-legged jeans meet second-skin tops or narrow elongated blazers, while slimmer cut shorts and vests recall scuba-wear. In tailoring, a focus on the waist: jackets with silicone piping narrow at the waistline, while overcoats are cinched and belted. There is a feeling of pulling back layers – a baggy draped trouser appears to be falling away from the body, while moments of transparency reveal a garment’s construction beneath.

PRINTS
A return to trompe l’oeil: candy-coloured ‘plastic’ key chains and stacks of belts adorn denim 2006 silhouette jeans, while customised denim patchwork prints appear on 5-pocket denim silhouettes, ballet pumps and swimwear. The illusion of airbrush, and spray paint created by London based artist, Francesca Frankis, also known as Coldf33t. Snake prints signify danger: a world away from the comfort of home. Doodles of Acne Studios form naive heart motifs.

GRAPHICS
The women of DC: Wonderwoman, Catwoman, the Huntress and the Drowned (Bryce Wayne) appear as femme fatales across the collection, appearing in embroidery, patchwork or prints, as if scrapbooked or collaged. “Aren’t they cooler?” says Johansson, “It’s about the dream of female superheroes being more mythical than the men.” Elsewhere, the Acne Studios Logogram continues to be a recurring motif – blown up in size or multiplied – while a new ‘Acne Studios’ logo appears on baseball caps, which feels customised and drawn by hand.

FABRICS
A contrast between the polished and the undone. Fine wool tailoring, finished with silicone piping, meets rusty garment-dyed pieces, burnished and grained leather, and laddered or cobwebbed knits. Shirting is fluid and viscose, adorned with graphic prints. An array of denim textures and finishes continue to re-explore Acne Studios archetypes: jacquard monogram fil-coupé denim comes with a coated finish, other jeans are hand-treated, enzyme-washed and oxidised to appear bleached. Polar fleece, fluffy nylon and chenille lend a feeling of comfort.

FOOTWEAR
A continuing exploration of extremes: heavy boots are worn away at the toe to reveal metal beneath: a play on the steel toe-capped boot. Lug-soled monk-strapped shoes appear daubed with paint, while knee-high boots have the illusion of denim jeans. A contrasting softness comes in a play on the shearling boot, or the introduction of a ballet pump, here reimagined as a lace-up sneaker.

ACCESSORIES
Accessories are eclectic and youthful. A new bag inspired by camera bags, is introduced in two sizes adorned with ‘Acne Studios Stockholm 1996’ logo zip closures. The Multipocket bag returns in worn-in iterations, a suede with a denim feel, the Bowlina is customised with stickers. Baseball caps feature plays on the Acne Studios logo: whether in collegiate-style embroidery, or appearing as if drawn on by hand. For jewellery, the Acne Studios button logo becomes a necklace, while wide rings and hoop earrings are inset with tiny gems. Thick chain necklaces come with padlock charms, whilst bracelets feature a metal logo plaque.
