Zimmermann "In Concert" - New Fall 2021 RTW Collection
Luxferity, 26.02.2021
Zimmermann’s love of print and texture comes to the fore for Fall 2021, with a collection of layered looks, as sophisticated as they are playful.
“This season I started with the memory of a music television show in Australia in the 70’s and 80’s called Countdown. Growing up in the suburbs, between 6pm and 7pm each Sunday night, it was this exciting and inspirational escape for me, where music, fashion and a wider world came together. There were all these great international bands who were touring Australia, performing alongside established and emerging local artists, and these hilariously candid interviews with the host, Molly Meldrum. I loved the energy and creativity that came together with each show – it was so addictive! It was a really important influence on me growing up as a teenager, which is funny when I think back to it. The collection themes came as much from the mood it evoked as much as the eras it traversed,” Creative Director, Nicky Zimmermann.
Zimmermann’s love of print and texture comes to the fore for Fall 2021, with a collection of layered looks, as sophisticated as they are playful.
The hero artwork of the season dances across garments in placement prints; featuring stylised sketches of cassette and record players, stars and musical pop-art in a burst of colours. Texture and embellishments aplenty add Zimmermann’s signature bravado – drawing parallels between the exhilaration and anticipation of a live show, with the sense of occasion and joy Zimmermann brings to everyday dressing. Delicate gold netting, crystal buttons, oversized pussy-bows and lashes of glitter from French tulle dresses to accessories bring the fun, while tubular coats, silk pyjama sets, and patent outerwear with ribbed cuffs balance the more extravagant silhouettes with a more casual approach.
Mixed prints, inspired by the era are organised in a hum of colour, spanning from pink and mulberry, to gold and tan, through to green-blues. Monotone suiting, favoured by musicians of the 70s and 80s, is modernized with considered hardware and saddle stitch detailing; cut from wool, layered with delicate knitwear which utilises upcycled yarns.
For the first time, Zimmermann introduces denim into its ready-to-wear offering, serving attitude in body-hugging waisted styles, featuring flared hems and patent panelling. Each piece featuring an embroidered ‘Z’ topstitched to the back pocket of the Italian Denim. Denim and corduroy trench coat and bomber jackets double down on style and warmth. Signature blouses with frills and flounce match back with clean-cut jeans or man style trousers, with platform loafer-meets-sneakers or ladylike Mary Jane’s.
Laser-cut discs adorning dresses, bubble hems and skirts lined with crinoline add a lightness and bounce that reflects Zimmermann’s eternal optimism. Checked peacoats and culottes that reveal patent boots punctuate the beat that runs through In Concert, sprinkled with diamantes for good measure.
