Introducing COS Spring Summer 2021 Collection
Luxferity, 19.03.2021
The COS Spring Summer 2021 collection explores concepts bound by contemporary culture and reacts to an environment of change.
Wardrobe icons are elevated and redefined to reflect a new way of living, whilst remaining devoted to timeless styling and longevity.
Craftsmanship is highlighted this season with distinctive details throughout the collection. Tactility of fabrics and material choices play a significant role in building silhouettes, ensuring ease of movement and draping. Summer linens add a weightlessness to the collection. As part of the ongoing journey and commitment towards circularity, the majority of materials within the collection are sustainably sourced, from organic cottons to jewellery produced from recycled yoghurt pots. Traditional techniques have been utilised and developed; modifications to weave print are apparent as texture and construction are revisited.
Inspirations for the season translate into a collection which encompasses both statement fashion pieces and relaxed essentials. The traditional boundaries between leisure and luxury are blurred, as modern, street and athletic-inflected garments embrace opulent fabrics and fits. Functional sports-inspired pieces are inventively styled and repurposed to transcend into new activities and environments.
This season’s colour palette presents a fusion of muted neutrals. Hues embrace fabric choices and shades work in harmony; off-white, taupe and tonal greys build the foundation of the collection. Golden, mustard yellows, warm orange and shades of blue inject vibrance.
New silhouettes are introduced – in womenswear, relaxed fits and balloon-like proportions are influenced by street and sportswear. These are juxtaposed with shrunken, tight and skin-baring pieces, whilst feminine butterfly drapes make styling effortless. Fresh takes on set dressing offer innovation in production and material choice. In knitwear, a zero-waste, seamless cashmere bodycon set democratises sustainability and offers ergonomic design and movement. A two-piece taking inspiration from lingerie showcases exclusive fashioning details and when worn as an outer garment creates sculpture around the body, celebrating the female form. Summer tailoring is reinvented with elements of craft; a classic blazer and short is defined by boning and tie detailing.
Within menswear, versatile dressing is epitomised through a collaboration of COS icons and statement pieces.
A pullover anorak sits loosely on the body, whilst waterproof zips and seams offer discreet functionality throughout. A modular silhouette is achieved through layering pieces; an overshirt and a cotton-cashmere vest offer styling opportunities for the transitional wardrobe. The season presents flattering fits, whilst also remaining easy to wear; elasticated trousers are crafted to create an effortless silhouette. Material consideration is prominent, a slight sheen in fabric choice adds a dimensional element to the classic trench coat, which has been reworked for the season.
A range of impactful accessories complement the ready-to-wear pieces. Versatility in styling continues as the distorted boundaries between high fashion and relaxed styles endure. In womenswear, a pointed kitten heel translates seamlessly from sporty looks and core denim styles to formal, elevated tailoring. Dual functionality is offered in bags; a classic tote bag formulates as a backpack, whilst a crossbody can be worn around the waist. Craft-inspired detailing is prominent and is applied for both aesthetics and function in macramé jewellery, whilst knotting techniques also feature within belts. Classic trainers are revisited in menswear for an essential guise, whilst a high-top sneaker alludes to street and sportswear.
