Zimmermann Expands European Retail Footprint With Its New Boutique In Cannes
Luxferity, 10.06.2021
ZIMMERMANN is continuing its European retail expansion with the opening of a boutique in Cannes, France in May 2021.
In keeping with the brand’s Australian roots, the Cannes boutique is designed by Australian architect Don McQualter of Studio McQualter and is a physical embodiment of the ZIMMERMANN brand - relaxed femininity, an air of freshness and light, and unyielding optimism.
The ZIMMERMANN Cannes boutique is 125 square meters, located at 11 Rue des États-Unis and features a series of minimal whitewashed rooms, using organic lime wash. The plaster moldings were handmade by local craftsmen in the customary way, and the floors are in keeping with traditional terrazzo tiles. The doors and windows were all recycled, including a grand arched leadlight door from an early 1900’s department store in London.
The artwork is a collection of amusingly risqué collages and sketches, including a 1974 ink drawing from Sydney pop artist, Richard Larter, famous for his nude paintings of his wife Pat, alongside pieces by Naata Nungurrayi and Gaetano Pesce. The furniture is part of a collection of vintage pieces which travel between ZIMMERMANN’s global boutiques.
“Cannes is such a beautiful place. I have wonderful memories of visiting over the years and to now have a store in the city is so exciting. The last year has reminded everyone how precious life is and how the opportunity to travel and enjoy fun times is such a privilege. I can’t wait to visit again - I’ll be there as soon as we’re allowed! I love how our store fits so naturally into the neighborhood and when you step inside there are little Australian touches, from the artworks to furniture,” said Creative Director & Co-Founder, Nicky Zimmermann.
In 2018, ZIMMERMANN opened its first French boutique in St Tropez followed by Paris in 2019. Including Cannes, the brand will now have three stores in France and six stores across Europe.
The boutique opened with the Spring 2021 and Summer Swim 2021 collections.
