The heritage Maison’s 95-year-old history has revealed itself with discretion to keen observers and those in the know, becoming over time an insider’s secret since its foundation in 1928.
Serapian’s artisans create the handcrafted pieces behind the doors of Villa Mozart, the Maison’s headquarters and atelier in the heart of Milan. Its front gates swings open on September 19th for a fabulous soirée during Milan Fashion Week. Furnished with quintessentially Milanese décor and design pieces from the Marta Sala Éditions collection, among others, the event honors the legacy of the fine leathergoods label and its link with Milan’s cultural milieu.
Honing in on its signature design, the Secret tote bag, first created as a bespoke artisanal piece for a discerning Milanese client who requested a spacious, lightweight bag with a hidden pocket inside, takes center stage in the spring/summer 2024 women’s collection, called “Milanese Geometries,” which reinterprets the style paying homage to the measured opulence of Milan’s entryways.
Viewed as a portal to discover the city’s soft-spoken flair, entryways embed polychrome materials and elaborate geometric patterns juggling austerity and magnificence, out-there splendor and sobriety. They reflect Serapian’s knack for understated elegance, exceptional craftsmanship and exacting artisanship.
A treasure chest shielding secrets and ensuring intimacy, the Secret tote bag, crafted from supple nappa leather, reveals its soul in the “See-through” range in black and tan iterations with the signature Mosaico weaving techniques exalted by contrasting leather or canvas linings. Each bag comes with a hidden leather pouch also embellished with the Mosaico pattern.
The Maison’s artisanal wizardry is channeled to superlative effect in the Mestieri d’Arte lineup defined by intricate patterns inspired by the marble flooring of Milanese entryways. The stop-and-go Mosaico technique is out in force combining nappa, suede and laminated nappa in eclectic color combinations. The white and black checkerboard-nodding version with forest green accents is flanked by the coral red and peacock blue versions, which embed pink and laminated platinum leather and rust red suede and silver laminated leather, respectively.
The exquisite pattern is further glorified in the rare and precious exotic skins collection where off-white leather is accented with beige suede and light gold laminated Elaphe strips adding a 3D and textured effect to the timeless Serapian icon.
In the main range, the Mosaico technique is treated in pure form, with solid coral red, blue jeans and gold versions of the Secret tote bag, available in three sizes that stands out for their classy elegance.
A resort and relaxed vibe runs through the Canvas and Raffia lineup filled with understated pieces nodding to the old-school elegance of habitué of tony seaside resort destinations. Natural canvas and tan leather piping and detailing grace the Secret bag in the regular and small sizes as well as the Meliné top handle, while natural raffia and almond leather are paired for the Secret bag in the small, regular and clutch designs.
