sacai Presents Its New 2022 Spring & Summer Collection

For Spring / Summer ‘22, Sacai’s designer and founder, Chitose Abe, flexes her signature language of hybridisation into an intentionally new narrative, in recognition of our re-emergence into a new world, proposing a series of ‘double take’ looks - outfits made up of imperceptibly melded and spliced wardrobe elements, that can be worn in different ways - a transformation that brings with it a new duality of purpose and a new shape to familiar garments.

Integrated jacket + shirt combinations convert into dresses, when the jacket is dropped down from the waist to reveal its lining and take on the form of a skirt - an entirely new silhouette emerging from the garment’s component pieces. Coats and jackets are cut horizontally, the drop of the fabric making a new asymmetric hemline while revealing a suggestion of what lies beneath.

Re-visiting the original essence of Sacai, this season’s collection recalls the street-y femininity of the house’s original lingerie influences, dialling up a gentle, seductive sensuality. The shoulders become a focal point, made so with the help of exaggerated shoulder pieces constructed from intricate 3D folds.

The collection is filmed this season against a backdrop of the iconic Tokyo Tower, with models arriving on a Sacai-customised ‘Hato’ bus, a playful take on the idea of a tourist taking a visit around the city by night.
