MCM Collaborates With Multi-Talented Ghanaian Artist Selassie

“Seeing things as forever changing” - The MCM x Selassie upcycling capsule collection.

His inspiration for the MCM upcycling collection was to bring patterns to life and introduce color to the various ways of living with the product.

‚My goal was to create a collection that represents an oevre which continues to develp and grow,‘ says Selassie reflecting on the value and the sustainability of this partnership. To give new life to MCM’s excess stock, Selassie has chosen to use his own symbol – the Stickman. He represents humanity and repeats in various ways throughout the entire upcycling collection.

‚With the “MCM Creative Minds” project, we want to create a platform offering creative pioneers from fashion to culture and art an innovative exchange. I truly believe in different viewpoints and the positively challenging tension a creative dialogue can bring to the conversation. Selassie has been on my radar for some time now, and I am thrilled that he agreed to collaborate with us. Limited to 28 styles including MCM statement pieces such as the iconic backpacks, as well as clutches and beltbags and small functional leather goods. The pieces are available from May 31^st until June 5^th, 2022. 100% of the proceeds will go to Project Justine, a charity which Selassie strongly supports.

Project Justine plans to build an educational and cultural center in Benin, West Africa. Young people who otherwise would not have access to education, receive an extensive vocational training. This offers youth a chance to a stable income and with this a self-determined life.

As Selassie has been a part of setting-up the project in Benin, the charity is essential to his work for MCM. With the MCM x Selassie Upcycling Capsule both partners express the desire to follow a sutainability way of life.
