Bvlgari KALEIDOS: Colors, Cultures And Crafts
Luxferity, 18.09.2025

Bvlgari, the Roman Maison of High Jewelry, unveils its most ambitious exhibition in Japan to date: “Bvlgari KALEIDOS: Colors, Cultures and Crafts.” Opening at The National Art Center, Tokyo (NACT) from September 17 to December 15, 2025, the exhibition invites visitors on a chromatic journey through the House’s mastery of gemstones, Italian heritage, and creative dialogue with Japan.
A Kaleidoscope of 350 Masterpieces
Marking Bvlgari’s largest exhibition ever in Japan—and its first in a decade—KALEIDOS brings together nearly 350 dazzling creations. From rare jewels of the Bvlgari Heritage Collection to contemporary commissions, the showcase celebrates the Maison’s revolutionary use of color and its artistic exchanges across cultures.

Highlights include iconic High Jewelry pieces from prestigious private collections and one-of-a-kind works by Lara Favaretto, Mariko Mori, and Akiko Nakayama, three contemporary female artists invited to reinterpret the theme of color in new, immersive forms.

Chromatic Revolution: Bvlgari as the Master of Colored Gemstones
Throughout its history, Bvlgari has transformed color into a true art form. From pioneering daring gemstone combinations in the 1950s to introducing the cabochon cut as a signature of chromatic intensity, the Maison established itself as the Master of Colored Gemstones.

The exhibition unfolds in three immersive chapters:
• The Science of Colors: Exploring chromatic effects through historical masterpieces.
• Color Symbolism: Examining cultural and emotional meaning in gemstones, including the legendary Seven Wonders emerald necklace.
• The Power of Light: A luminous finale featuring transformable High Jewelry pieces, fancy colored diamonds, and the iconic Serpenti evening bag.
Art Meets High Jewelry
KALEIDOS emphasizes the dialogue between High Jewelry and Fine Arts. Through newly commissioned works, Favaretto, Mori, and Nakayama expand Bvlgari’s vision of color as transformation—ranging from hypnotic kinetic installations to immersive mythological spaces and ephemeral living paintings.

Their works resonate with Bvlgari’s jewelry, reinforcing the Maison’s position not only as a jeweler, but as a cultural force at the intersection of luxury, craftsmanship, and contemporary art.
Italy Meets Japan: A Cultural Dialogue
The scenography, designed in collaboration with Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA and Italian studio Formafantasma, pays homage to both Roman mosaics and Japanese aesthetics. Fluid architectural shapes, translucent materials, and light effects create a sensory journey into Bvlgari’s chromatic universe.
Bead Embroidered Long Dress
Symbolizing the connection between Rome and Tokyo, the exhibition opens with two extraordinary objects: a Roman temple-inspired gold paperweight and a Japanese-inspired circular brooch—together embodying the shared dedication to artistry, craftsmanship, and beauty.
Bvlgari’s Timeless Spirit in Tokyo
As Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bvlgari, explains: “The Kaleidos exhibition is a celebration of our heritage, where every jewel embodies cultures, craftsmanship, and the extraordinary colors of nature. Tokyo, with its harmony of tradition and innovation, is the perfect setting for this new chapter in our story.”

With the support of the Italian Embassy in Japan, the exhibition stands as both a tribute to Bvlgari’s Roman roots and a symbol of cultural exchange between Italy and Japan.
