Nina Ricci’s Spring-Summer 2021 Collection
Luxferity, 18.11.2020
In these troubled times and more than ever, the Creative Directors felt the urge to come back to the roots of the House: an irrepressible desire for optimism. This Spring-Summer 2021 collection is a message of hope.
Eclipsing the dark days of war, the iconic L’Air du Temps fragrance was launched in 1948 as a symbol of peace and renewal, life and love, lightness and emotion. As its bottle imagined by master glassmaker Lalique, the silhouette is all about lightness. Using creative cutting to generate new volumes, the duo introduces a linear base which transforms at the slightest movement. The scarf, a Nina Ricci wardrobe classic, is used here to extend a balloon sleeve, twist a pants’ volume or tie a hat in a resolutely sophisticated gesture.
Following their long-lasting interest for beachwear, the swimsuit is referenced for both its shape and color, envisioned as a fitting and conformable modern-day corset. Indeed, the color palette is energetic. The vibrant, powdery and neutral tones are enriched by a clear variety of textures: matte versus metallic, punctuated by the romantic freshness of a dove print. The historical pied de poule pattern, once hand-painted, feels blended, almost abstract.
In line with Nina Ricci’s mindset that beauty lies in simplicity, this collection definitely comes back to the essence of the House: Parisian elegance with an added touch of playful irreverence.
