Martin Brudnizki's latest masterpiece: a breath of fresh air has been blowing through the historic pavilion of the legendary Baur au Lac since September. With an unmistakable dedication to detail, the Martin Brudnizki Design Studio has created a place that combines refined craftsmanship and Mediterranean lightness in a unique way.

Following the design of Baur's Brasserie & Bar in 2019, Baur au Lac is once again relying on the unmistakable signature of Martin Brudnizki. The design studio of the Swedish interior and product designer - known for prestigious projects such as the Broadwick Soho, Le Grand Mazarin in Paris and the Soho Beach House in Miami - is creating another highlight for Martin Brudnizki Design: Marguita at the Baur au Lac, which shines with Mediterranean cuisine at the highest level.

As soon as guests enter the Marguita, they are greeted by a view through the restaurant before reaching the bar. The walls, painted in soft shades of green, reflect the lush gardens that surround the hotel and restaurant. Mirrors by Tony Sandals with golden floral decorations reflect the light and enhance the atmosphere of the garden. The bar, made of handcrafted Swiss natural wood, emphasises the connection to the surrounding nature.

The design reflects the beauty of Zurich, with soft blues and yellows reminiscent of the glistening sunlight on the lake. Inspired by the regional flora and fauna as well as Mediterranean influences, hand-painted botanical motifs by Pictalab adorn the architectural niches and depict delicate vines, olive branches and the local edelweiss.

The light-flooded restaurant in the historic pavilion honours the heritage of this listed building with its original architecture and design. An Art Deco chandelier by Genet et Michon in the centre of the roundel and Murano glass from Italy by And Objects enhance the impressive ambience. Wood and wood panelling give Marguita an inviting warmth that harmoniously complements the lighter design elements. Trellis details on the ceilings in the main restaurant and on the terrace create the illusion of a space that effortlessly combines indoor and outdoor areas.

The intricately designed floral mosaic by Mosaici Moruzzi, inspired by the original floor of the building, runs throughout the restaurant and allows for a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor areas.

While the focus in winter is on the distinctive rondel in the park, summer can be enjoyed on the sunny terrace, which opened in June 2024 and has been popular from the start. The terrace showcases MBDS's bespoke furniture design, where each piece of furniture is covered in cotton and linen fabrics for the summer and replaced with denser, velvety fabrics in the colder months. Bright, contrasting parasols add a touch of nostalgia and emphasise the incomparable flair of this restaurant. Marguita is an oasis of good flavour in the middle of Zurich's urban hustle and bustle at any time of year.
