The relationship between Triennale and Kiton arose from the desire to represent the issue of training and skilled craftsmanship as a central theme in the cultural system in Italy and elsewhere. The school has become an exhibition project with the aim of fostering awareness among the general public and enhancing appreciation of the figure of the tailor as a present-day professional.

The exhibition is coming to Paris, to the spaces of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, after being staged at Triennale Milano on the occasion of Milan Fashion Week Menswear, and focuses on the integration of training and skilled craftsmanship, starting with the experience of the Tailoring School (Scuola di Alta Sartoria) founded by Kiton in 2000. Like the first exhibition, this one is accompanied by some visits and appointments dedicated to French schools, with the intention of introducing what is now acknowledged to be a highly effective and replicable model.

In the words of Stefano Boeri, President of Triennale Milano: “Training is a topic that is very dear to our hearts at Triennale, where we have been working hard for many years to pass on knowledge, values and new opportunities to future generations. We are well aware that every project, if done well, can teach us something and inspire new visions: that is why Triennale emphasizes developing effective training courses, that provide an example that can also be followed in other countries. We are proud to continue this dialogue with the remarkable activity offered by the Kiton Tailoring School, which gives young people a voice and combines their dreams and aspirations with the concrete realities of a profession, and proud to do so through cooperation with a leading institution, the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode. It is a source of great satisfaction for us to be able to help spread awareness of Italian excellence abroad.”

Carla Morogallo, Director General of Triennale Milano, adds: “One of the aspects that Triennale has been focusing on for some time is developing projects and suggesting ideas that may be useful for training young people, with particular attention to craftsmanship. In the fashion sector, there is a very strong demand for highly skilled craftworkers, and we consider this to be a particularly significant issue with plenty of room for development. The Paris staging of this exhibition, developed in collaboration with Kiton, is an example of what an institution can do for the training sector in concrete terms: it can encourage young people to develop the skills required by the sector and can suggest further training opportunities for brands. Moreover, to be able to bring such an essential element as Italian craftsmanship to one of the European fashion capitals is a source of pride for an institution that has for many years highlighted the importance of sharing ideas and expertise and collaborating with international institutions.”

Antonio De Matteis, CEO at Kiton, comments: “Since 2000, Kiton has been promoting training for excellence through its Tailoring School, a project that was initiated by our founder Ciro Paone to pass on the art of tailoring to young people and to offer them concrete professional opportunities. Today the school is a beacon in the sector, opening up numerous opportunities for its graduates, from joining Kiton to working with other fashion brands or launching their own independent entrepreneurial career paths. For Kiton, promoting the Italian tailoring tradition is a mission that will be accomplished through prestigious partnerships. The exhibition Tailoring school. A journey into education, launched in collaboration with Triennale Milano and inaugurated last January in Milan, is to be presented in Paris, too, thanks to the support of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode and the collaboration of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Parigi. Kiton is proud to join with these important institutions in bringing the exhibition to the French capital, achieving another objective that proves how it is possible to combine dreams and aspirations with concrete professional reality, while preserving a cultural heritage, contributing to the future of fashion, and showcasing Italian tailoring excellence on an international stage.”
