Longchamp Spring & Summer 2021 Collection - An Ode To Parisian Femininity
Luxferity, 15.04.2021
For its 2021 Spring & Summer collection, Longchamp was inspired by the one-of-a-kind energy of the Parisian woman.
Sophie Delafontaine, Artistic Director at Longchamp, explains: «I decided to stray from the overly sophisticated style of the classic Parisian woman while creating the new collection. Bold and somewhat offbeat, it embodies the slight irreverence of a woman who rarely takes herself too seriously. Like Longchamp, the collection brazenly highlights the virtues of casual and unbridled women’s fashion.»
The brand’s moodboard shines the spotlight on Paris, the city where the company was founded, as well as on the work of James Turrel and some unique pieces by artists Louise Bourgeois and Carol Rama. The metallic effects and bright colors of several of the collection’s bags and looks were directly inspired by the painter from California, while the coral and rusty orange pinks were taken straight from the paintings of the two female artists.
The collection pays tribute to the casual and playfully Parisian woman with audacious macramé on many of the skirts, tops, and shirt fronts and a net style print on both ready-to-wear items and some bags and accessories. It also features a number of romantic looks designed with dazzling English embroidery.
«Although the collection is rhythmed by sportswear such as zip-up sweatshirts and pants with elastic waists, I also wanted to create a sensual side and some tailored items inspired by the wardrobes of stylish men. The idea was to adorn these structured looks with bright colors, materials, and designs such as floral prints to make them more feminine,» explains Sophie Delafontaine.
Longchamp’s iconic Le Pliage bag received a shiny seasonal makeover done in gorgeous metallic canvas. It comes in sizes XXL and XXS and can be worn around the neck for the most striking of styles.
The brand also teamed up with FILT, the French manufacturer of the famous cotton mesh shopping bag, to create a unique and slightly offbeat accessory. Made with the Russian leather handles of Le Pliage, this new bag is the ultimate tote bag for the summer.
Meanwhile, the Mailbox line boldly combines denim and an all-over LGP graphic print with contrasting, slightly burnished crocodile style leather yokes.
The Roseau and Longchamp 1980 lines continue to be cornerstones of the brand and are designed with smooth, vinyl style or crocodile style leathers.
Finally, the new Brioche line will make its debut next summer. Done in soft, padded leather with an adjustable chain, it has all the makings of a future it bag.
«We wanted to create authentic new items that showcased our expertise. Long-lasting products that we can use for years to come and redesign to make them even better,» concludes the Artistic Director, who bets on a less sophisticated wardrobe this season, in the spirit of «less is more.»
