To make Y richer and more enigmatic than ever before, the rockstar perfumer introduces a new star player: the sensual oud wood. One of the most precious and noble materials in his palette, and one of his favorite to work with, even though (or because) it is especially challenging to tame for a perfumer.
“It is an ingredient I am particularly fond of”, he says. “I love using it in my formulas because it is imperative to treat it with precision and relevance. Oud possesses a unique woody character, extremely powerful, very sensuous and animalic. It has many facets: woody, obviously, but also spicy and ambery. Adding this material brings an enormous amount of character and allure to Y L’ELIXIR and makes it unique.”
The lift and elegance of a spicy, leathery saffron accord introduces the new, high-luxury ingredient straight-off as the fragrance opens with its signature ginger, juniper, bergamot, and freshly-pressed shirt aldehydes – a cool clean blast that accents the contrast with the darker, more sensuous melody to come.

A rare natural ingredient found in the Aquilaria crassna tree native to Southeast Asia, it can only be harvested after ten year’s growth – in the wild, only one tree out of 100 develops the rare resin. Meticulously distilled to bring out its woodier, leatherier, animalic facets, the ultra-precious, multi-faceted ingredient resonates as deeply and richly as drums. A new variety developed for the freshness of its fragrance, Diva Lavender is grown in low mountain areas of Provence. Sustainably sourced, Diva lavender is part of a program which aims to promote the return of lavender crops in France. The Diva lavender Heart, a fresher, more floral expression of the essence, crafted for the brand.

Grown according to traditional methods in the volcanic regions of Bangli and Gianyar on the island of Bali, the patchouli crafted for YSL Beauty is sustainably sourced, and has obtained the “For Life” certification. Optimized distillation parameters, combined with the specificity of the terroir, yield an essential oil without the naturally camphorated notes of the plant. The woody, earthy, humid facets of this patchouli Bali oil bring depth and sensuality to fragrances.
