Rochas Presents Its New Spring Summer 2024 Collection
Luxferity, 15.04.2024
Founded by Marcel Rochas in 1925, the House of ROCHAS is one of the longest running French fashion houses in existence and a synonym for audacious femininity. A creative force amongst fashion's 20th century elite, Monsieur Rochas' strikingly modern and architectural vision of la femme Parisienne was renowned for its graphic and sculptural silhouette. For the Spring Summer 2024 season, the House reveals a contemporary homage to the founder, resplendent with sophisticated gestures that hark back to the sensual ways he designed for the women closest to him. Designs reveal a pluralistic femininity, inspired by his first and second wives Yvonne and Rina and the mythical Helene: a glamorous businesswoman and a force in the artistic and cultural milieu of Paris.
Evoking a timeless ROCHAS spirit through a resolutely contemporary lens, the collection shifts from day to night in an elevated wardrobe that revels in daring volumes and romantic textures. Mid-century touches are modernised considering the needs and desires of women today. A profound research into the House colour archives unlocks a vibrant palette of vermillion, pale jade, chartreuse, cobalt and powder pink alongside the ROCHAS signatures of black, ivory and white. Hourglass shapes emerge throughout in relaxed and structured garments, from cropped poplin shirts and matching circle skirt sets, to darted fishtail evening gowns, pocketed pencil skirts and a sculptural denim pantsuit.
Celebrating the precision of contoured cuts and flair for drama so inherent in Monsieur Rochas' creations, both tailoring and flou pieces are crafted with soft peplums, portrait necklines and corset details. Parachute volumes create taffeta capes, skirts and collars, held by the new ROCHAS signature buckle in brushed gold. Revisiting the subtle Surrealist spirit of his life and times, swirling 'marble' prints, buttons and applique beads join the abstract jacquards and silk aquarelle prints of the favourite flower, the iris, which appears as 3D lace or silk brooches on blazers and boxing boots alike.
Affirming the House's historical eveningwear prowess, a series of silhouettes for after dark reveal embroidered feather-like sequins that shiver beneath organza sheaths, lace-encrusted cutaway jackets, babydoll cocktail dresses, and floor length ball skirts or column gowns with delicate bustiers. The effect is of a streamlined and artistic sophistication: unapologetically feminine with an enchanting modern spirit.
