Roberto Cavalli Presents Its New Ray Of Gold Print During Milan Design Week 2024
Luxferity, 10.04.2024
During Milan Design Week 2024, Roberto Cavalli will present a preview of the Ray of Gold print, the protagonist of the new Home collections. From April 16th to 21st, 2024, Ray of Gold by Roberto Cavalli Home Collection will brighten the city. A tram will go through the streets of Milan adorned with the print, while from April 16th to 20th, in collaboration with the magazine AD, the Condé-Nast Bistrot in Piazza Cordusio will be completely dressed in the Ray of Gold print.
The birth of an icon never occurs by calculation. Instead, it happens thanks to an innate attitude towards seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary.
The story of Ray of Gold starts with Roberto Cavalli, an inventive man who has poured infinite shades of his own imagination into his fashion creations. He is sitting at a table, with his camera always by his side. He lights a cigarette and puts his gold lighter on the table. A ray of sunlight hits the lighter and refracts. Roberto’s eyes are quick to seize the moment and, in an instant, the lens captures the evanescent scene of an event which is unrepeatable by its very own nature. The photo will be transferred onto fabric, to become a print that illuminates the Roberto Cavalli Spring Summer 2007 collection with its gold rays.
This is how Ray of Gold was born. It is not simply a print, but an intuition turned into reality, a sign from nature, a light, turned into a long dress with a trompe-l’oeil effect that gathers infinite rays under the chest, just like drapery. The rays on the dress radiate in yellow and white creating contrast with black and transforming sleeves into two wings.
The print born from a golden ray not only hypnotised those who were present at the fashion show, but also gave Roberto Cavalli additional allure when it transitioned from Ready-to-wear styles seen at the runway to special Couture creations. Today, it continues to retain the same power as it did in the past: in 2022, Jennifer Lopez wore it at the Diamond Gala at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, enchanting the entire arena.
"I began exploring the Cavalli archive starting from a famous caftan which had been made for Marta Marzotto. It was embroidered on a fabric printed with the Ray of Gold print created by Roberto Cavalli himself, which took me all the way to considering his passion for Art Deco," says Fausto Puglisi, the creative director of Roberto Cavalli. Puglisi has designed a Ray Gold Capsule Collection which develops the print across all of the brand's creations: Ready-to-Wear, Beachwear, Eyewear, and Home Collection. All under the Ray of Gold label, that same label that will bring partnership projects and brand activation events to life. The entire project will be launched during the upcoming Milan Design Week from April 16-21, 2024.

The HomeInteriors selection presents a spacious rectangular Dining Table with rounded corners in soft curves, and with arched legs in solid black beechwood that geometrically reproduce the winged sleeves of the first Ray of Gold dress from 2007. The table’s bold scenic presence is given by its top, where the Ray of Gold decorative motif is crafted with the inlay technique with three different wood essences: Tanganika Frise for the ivory part, Tanganika for the black part, and Pama for the yellow part. A table stemming from meticulous craftsmanship, a signature feature of Roberto Cavalli Home Interiors. The result is a sculptural element that links design creation to artistic value in a pure definition of contemporary luxury. The table is produced by the expertise of Oniro Group, a company specialized in luxury design and manufacturer of all the brand’s Furniture items.
The Tableware range is complete with table ceramics and ceramic objects produced by Compagnia del Cristallo: coffee and tea cups in a number of shapes, both round and cylindrical, serving saucers, and a complete range of serving plates. All in the typical hues that are also found on the candle holder.
The Linen collection, produced by Mirabello Carrara, offers plenty of solutions for the bed, the place of dreams: cotton sheets and cotton velvet bedspreads coordinate with towels and bathrobes in terry cloth, featuring the motif in a range of whites and colours.
The Ray of Gold pattern becomes incredibly suggestive when translated into Wallpaper, produced by Emiliana Parati, and Tiles, with ceramics from the Cerdisa Ricchetti Group. Both take the magic of light onto walls and floors, that same magic which Roberto Cavalli himself captured with his lens, spreading that ray of light refracted on gold to the entire environment.
