MCM Earned World-Reowned Butterlfy Mark Certification From Positive Luxury
Luxferity, 21.07.2022
The German fashion luxury house MCM have earned the world-renowned Butterfly Mark certificate. This is a milestone on MCM’s vision on sustainability, set up to be achieved by 2030.
Hailed as one of the world’s leading sustainability platforms by several global fashion industry players, Positive Luxury helps luxury organizations accelerate their adaption to the new climate economy, by powering its Butterfly Mark. The Butterfly Mark certification is earned by businesses that are actively innovating to accelerate towards a new climate transition, helping to advance inclusive growth through more sustainable business practices.
The trust mark is tangible, independent evidence to consumers and other stakeholders that a luxury business is operating in line with the highest standards of sustainability across the entire value chain.
With this certificate MCM strives further on its smart luxury mission: setting emissions reduction targets which are grounded in climate science through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi); furthering climate and ecosystem protection by increasing closed-loop production; and by prompting innovation, circularity, and inclusive growth.
This is another important step of MCM to become more responsible. While MCM has already announced in 2018 to be fur free on all products, it today uses eco fake fur, as well as Econyl, Re-Silk, Tencel, Koba and Bananatex and others alike in its collections. Further, all leather goods are being produced with only LWG certified leather material. The brand is also extensively working to use more innovative material in the future, such as visetos material which is bio-mass based.
"We are delighted that MCM earned the Butterfly Mark Certification powered by Positive Luxury. They have earned their certification, as a result of incorporating measurable environmental, social and governance practices into the everyday operations. From conscious design, climate accounting and working with their suppliers in order to become one of the world’s leading sustainable fashion companies by 2030 - we are honoured to work with MCM leadership team in order to achieve their goals,”Diana Verde Nieto, Co-Founder of Positive Luxury.
“It’s important to be transparent on our path to becoming a sustainable luxury brand. At MCM we truly believe that it is our responsibility to drive sustainability. There is much more work to do, but we’re taking the right steps and are investing in the right initiatives. We believe it is urgent to create change within the fashion industry and want to be a positive example of innovation and progress for all sustainability targets,”Dirk Schönberger, Global Brand Officer at MCM.
By joining the Positive Luxury brand community, MCM will continue to aim in exceeding standards set for social and environmental frameworks. More about MCM’s positive commitment here: mcmworldwide.com
