Celebrities attended 2023 Met Gala wearing Karl Lagerfeld (archival) couture.
- Model Alton Mason attended The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2023 Met Gala, also known as The Costume Institute Benefit, wearing KARL LAGERFELD couture.
Alton’s white lace jumpsuit was inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s vision for a fairytale wedding and the “bride” look he often created to close out his fashion shows. Crafted from featherweight chiffon veil, the jumpsuit features a beaded lace corset, further accentuated by a strong shoulder silhouette and built-in fingerless gloves. The sweetheart neckline was inspired by a jacket sourced from Karl Lagerfeld’s personal design archives.
Alton’s look was custom created for the Met Gala by KARL LAGERFELD Design Director Hun Kim.
- Supermodel, actress and activist Amber Valletta attended The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2023 Met Gala wearing KARL LAGERFELD couture.
The gown was custom created by KARL LAGERFELD Design Director Hun Kim. In consultation together with Amber, they were inspired by the fan accessory that Karl Lagerfeld was known to always carry with him in the ‘80s and ‘90s.
The body of the gown features an elegant fan-shaped top and skirt, with deep cutouts on the waist for a feminine silhouette. The sunburst-style design is crafted from pleated white mesh, with black beaded over-pleats. A detachable, pleated silksatin cape adds to the goddess-like effect.
- Actor Brian Tyree Henry attended The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2023 Met Gala wearing KARL LAGERFELD couture.
Brian’s outfit was custom created by KARL LAGERFELD Design Director Hun Kim, whose vision was inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s iconic white shirt.
Brian wore a Mao collar shirt with voluminous sleeves, draped over an exposed shoulder jacket and duchess satin pants. The look was topped with multiple layers of pearl necklaces and finished with a chiffon stitched multi-layer cape.
- Model, and actress Cara Delevingne attended The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2023 Met Gala wearing KARL LAGERFELD couture.
Created by Hun Kim, Design Director of the Maison KARL LAGERFELD, Cara’s look reimagines Karl Lagerfeld’s white shirt into an outspoken shirtdress. Crafted from 100% Swiss fine cotton with a natural stretch, the silhouette is topped with pleated bib details and a dramatic train stretching 3 meters (10 feet) from top to bottom. Cara accessorized with thigh-high, boot-effect black leather leggings and black fingerless gloves.
The look was inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s quintessential white shirt, which he frequently wore in public as part of his signature tuxedo-dressing look, and at home while sketching or relaxing. He was also known to enjoy reinventing white shirts by using the same fabric.
- Model and singer Carla Bruni attended The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2023 Met Gala wearing KARL LAGERFELD archival couture.
Carla wore an original crepe dress from Karl Lagerfeld’s archives. To modernize the design for today, KARL LAGERFELD Design Director Hun Kim added an elegant, draped silk scarf to the neckline.
- Actor, and singer Jared Leto attended The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2023 Met Gala wearing KARL LAGERFELD couture.
Jared’s arrival on the red carpet included a theatrical performance, as he first dressed as Choupette, Karl Lagerfeld’s infamous cat.
Under the dramatic feline outfit, Jared wore a KARL LAGERFELD archive pleated tunic with beaded shoulder pieces and satin slim-leg pants.
Jared’s look was curated for the Met Gala by KARL LAGERFELD Design Director Hun Kim.
- Singer and actor Manu Rios attended The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2023 Met Gala wearing KARL LAGERFELD couture.
In creating Manu’s look, KARL LAGERFELD Design Director Hun Kim was inspired by Karl’s own style in the 1970s.
Manu wore a cropped shirt jacket made from wool twill, layered over a high-neck cotton shirt with a silk-satin cravat and cummerbund. This was paired with slim-leg pants with a slit at the bottom hemline, mimicking Karl’s own look.
- Actress Michelle Yeoh attended The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2023 Met Gala wearing KARL LAGERFELD couture.
Michelle’s gown was inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s iconic tuxedo look, which he was known to wear during most public outings.
The gown’s exaggerated, double-layered sleeves were crafted from featherweight silk organza and paired with a black satin crepe bodice. A deep, draped back and wide neckline accentuate Michelle’s décolletage, while the front of the pencil skirt is punctuated by a dramatic slit.
