Gucci Unveils Festive-Themed Installation In Miami To Celebrate The Holiday Season
Luxferity, 05.12.2024
Gucci ushers in the festive season at Sweet Bird North Plaza in Miami’s Design District with an immersive installation, capturing the joyful essence of the holidays while drawing inspiration from the House’s rich travel-inspired heritage.
On display until January 7, the installation design, inspired by enchanted snow globes, pays homage to Gucci’s history, intertwining various threads of the House’s narrative. At the heart of this creation lies a nod to founder Guccio Gucci's early days as a porter at The Savoy hotel in London, where he first encountered the luggage that would later inspire the founding of his own boutique in Florence. Gucci’s renowned luggage pieces, ranging from elegant suitcases to grand trunks embossed with the distinctive GG Monogram, are brought to life against a backdrop of intricately designed miniature buildings. These animated scenes represent key locations in Gucci’s history, including Palazzo Gucci, located in Palazzo della Mercanzia in Florence, the Wooster Street boutique in New York City, and the flagship stores on Avenue Montaigne in Paris and New Bond Street in London.

To complement this festive celebration, Sweet Bird North Plaza is hosting an expanded Gucci takeover featuring a series of Art Walls. The House has collaborated with American artist Corydon Cowansage to create three murals, located between the square and Gucci’s boutique. Known for her opulent compositions that blur the lines between abstraction and figuration, Cowansage adapted one of her existing works for these installations. Her murals feature biomorphic shapes and a lush, vibrant palette, incorporating sensual, undulating forms that create a sense of depth and movement. Against a pale blue background, these shapes, reminiscent of floating lips, seem to protrude from the surface, some smiling, others provocatively distorted, reflecting the legacy of pioneering women artists like Judy Chicago and Zilia Sanchez who redefined femininity through anatomical biomorphic abstraction.
Cowansage’s murals at the plaza aligns with her participation at Miami Art Basel, where her work is be shown at the Kaufmann Repetto gallery booth, starting December 4 .
