Shiva Safai recently visited Piaget’s Manufacture in Plan-Les- Ouates, Geneva, Switzerland to see first-hand the extraordinary work carried out in the Maison’s Ateliers de l’Extraordinaire, where all the magic happens.
For over 140 years, Piaget has been creating watches and high-jewellery masterpieces by combining precious metals with flawless gemstones and innovative design. These creations come to life in the hands of the skilled goldsmiths, engravers, and gem setters that work in Piaget’s Les Ateliers de l’Extraordinaire. Shiva Safai is an Iranian model, businesswoman, and reality television personality. Born in Iran and raised in Norway, she went to live with extended family in Los Angeles at the age of 19. At a young age, she started her own business which she ran for 10 years. She now has her own lifestyle brand “Essentials by Shiva Safai”, which covers beauty, fashion, lifestyle, and travel.
“Thanks to social media, for a long time now, I’ve had the opportunity to share my life with people from all walks of life. Their continuous love, support and loyalty inspired me to create another outlet allowing me to become and communicate a more authentic version of me,” she said. “‘Essentials by SS’ is there for the ones who want to know the real me. To be honest, it’s not as easy as it seems but I love a challenge that will require me to grow and learn from the process. I’m thriving to do things differently than what I’m used to and I am having the most fun trying to achieve just that. I get to be me, A-Z.”
Shiva has hosted LA Fashion Week and made appearances in a host of TV shows including The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Access Hollywood Live and Daily Pop among others. In 2016 she was voted Best-Dressed Woman by Harper’s Bazaar Arabia. Philanthropy is also important to Shiva; she is an ambassador for the association Les Bonnes Oeuvres du Coeur that helps Moroccan children suffering from heart problems and those needing paediatric surgery; she is an ambassador for Save the Children; and the Iranian MAHAK Charity, an international organization helping children suffering from cancer.
Shiva was fascinated by how Piaget’s Limelight Gala timepieces are crafted, discovering how a watch is made from the very first sketches to the gemsetting of the case and the final assembly of the watch. Her experience at Piaget brought her a whole new appreciation for the Piaget timepieces and jewellery that she loves so much.
“During my visit to Piaget’s Ateliers de l’Extraordinaire in Geneva, Switzerland I was fascinated by their craftsmanship and their intricate gem-setting. I feel extremely grateful to have been around these true artisans and to witness how every single piece comes to life, it’s simply extraordinary,” she said.
