Roger Vivier Presents: “Do We Show?” Featuring The Fall/Winter 2021 Collection

Each one is unique. And each one is elegant. Each one is a cult personality that continues to fascinate us today. There are five of them, actresses or singers: Josephine Baker, Marlene Dietrich, Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe and Edith Piaf. They are all invited to a fashion show, but the presentation is late getting started. They lose patience, take to the stage, and recite a monologue, each more beautiful and alluring than the last. Meanwhile, the fashion show has still not begun.
These five women – or rather, impersonators, of the five emblematic personalities – are the stars of Do We Show? The film was created by Gherardo Felloni, the creative director of Roger Vivier, to present his Fall/Winter 2021 collection. Since he joined the French Maison in 2018, the designer has been aligning his love for the silver screen with the very close relationship that Roger Vivier himself had with the world of cinema. That connection becomes even clearer with this film. Most of the five women who inspired it often wore the Maison’s pieces, both on the screen and in the street.
However, the film Do We Show? also resonates specifically with the present day. Its story line reflects how the pandemic has been postponing the organization of real-life events, fashion shows and exhibitions, so that fashion is not able to express itself the way it once did. In the words of Gherardo Felloni, “It would be absurd to act as if it weren’t happening. Instead, we need to embrace it, and have some fun with the concept of waiting.” In this film a question is asked: “What if we are all performers?”
The story line of the film reflects this time of waiting and anticipation. It is also a love letter to the thespians, singers, and personalities of the entertainment world who have been hit hard by this crisis. In the film, Marlene Dietrich sums up the attitude: “You know, it’s hard to perform without an audience.” But Gherardo Felloni always infuses his work with humor, considering that “It makes things seem not so bad.” Do We Show? thus offers up a playful take on fashion. No spoilers, but the film plays on how appearances can be deceiving; and rest assured, the twist at the end is delightful.
Delight is precisely what Roger Vivier strives to provide, and this collection reflects that. Gherardo Felloni, who says that he uses “fashion and accessories as a way to ward off the gloom,” has designed a bold, yet charming, collection. Looking forward to future evenings, Gherardo Felloni presents the Covered Buckle Platform Boot, a knee-high boot with a stiletto heel, a platform and the emblematic buckle, hand crafted in patent leather. To accompany the sensuality of the boot, he also creates the Viv 'Choc Bag, embellished by the reinterpretation of the signature buckle as a contemporary and sensational jewel. The time has come to have some fun: give yourself the permission to enjoy life. Like Grace Kelly declares in the film, “Dreams have incomparable energy!”
