The Cat’s Well And Truly Out Of The Bag

In an exciting collaboration, filmmaker Matthew Vaughn and watchmaker Bremont proudly presents a captivating three-piece limited edition watch collection, in celebration of Vaughn’s new razor-witted, realitybending, globe-encircling spy thriller, Argylle. This exclusive collection represents a harmonious fusion of cinema and precision timekeeping, creating a must-have accessory for enthusiasts and collectors alike. Argylle, from Apple Original Films in association with MARV, arrives in theatres 2 February, distributed in partnership with Universal Pictures.
Argylle stars starring Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World franchise) as Elly Conway, a reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books—which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate—begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.
Accompanied by spy Aidan (Oscar winner Sam Rockwell), Elly races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between her imaginary world and her real one begins to blur. The film’s ensemble cast features Henry Cavill as Agent Argylle, Dua Lipa, John Cena, Oscar winner Ariana DeBose, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Sofia Boutella and Samuel L. Jackson.
Bremont and Matthew Vaughn have an historic relationship, having collaborated in 2014 on the first Kingsman film, whereby Bremont produced a number of exclusive timepieces for the film that were also commercially available to purchase.
Vaughn turned to Bremont once again for Argylle, seeking a watch partner to provide a variety of styles for the key characters: ‘Agent Argylle’, played by Henry Cavill; ‘Elly Conway’, played by Bryce Dallas Howard; ‘Aidan’, played by Sam Rockwell; ‘Alfred Solomon’, played by Samuel L Jackson; ‘Ritter’, played by Bryan Cranston; ‘Wyatt’, played by John Cena; and ‘Keira’, played by Ariana DeBose. Vaughn encouraged each actor to select a Bremont watch most-suited to their respective character to ensure an even deeper connection to their timepiece and to enhance the storytelling of their characters.
Taking inspiration from the film itself, Bremont has created The Bremont x Argylle Limited Edition Watch Collection comprised of three distinct timepieces, reflecting the movie’s key characters of Argylle, Aidan and Elly, while seamlessly translating the espionage intrigue onto the wrist. Each piece has been crafted with meticulous attention to detail and each is characterised by decorated dial designs featuring the iconic Argylle diamond pattern.
The Argylle is an elegant steel dress watch based on a traditional Bremont Solo 43. Featuring a polished stainless steel Bremont Trip-Tick® case with scratch resistant DLC treated case barrel and a push down crown, the 43mm GMT carries a date function at 6 o’clock, 56-hour power reserve and a decorated rotor visible through the exhibition case back. Gold plated indexes and hour and minute hands contrast elegantly against the black Argylle patterned dial.
The Argylle Jet is based on a Bremont U-2, a 43mm fit-for-purpose and robust design originally created with the military following the development and dramatic success of the Bremont military air crew watch, produced in association with Martin-Baker (MB). The U-2 chronometer takes the most advanced elements of an MB including the anti-shock rubberised movement mount; designed to withstand the MB ejection programme, but also added functionality. In line with these functions, the high-performance Argylle Jet is executed in DLC treated stainless steel with a trip-tick case construction and a jet-black barrel, reflecting the stealth nature of the characters by which it is inspired. Housing a 38-hour power reserve and a date function at 3 o’clock, the black Argylle patterned dial is punctuated by blue hour, minute and seconds hands filled with vintage super-luminova, in line with Bremont’s most iconic stealth designs. The second hand is tipped in vibrant yellow in a nod to the film’s colour palate.
In contrast, the Elly is a vibrant edition of the Solo 34, with a polished stainless-steel trip-tick case and DLC treated case barrel, complemented by a leather strap in vibrant Argylle yellow. Blue hour and minute hands and a yellow, diamond-tipped seconds hand are filled with blue super-luminova, contrasting elegantly against a white Argylle decorated dial. The 34mm timepiece reveals an exhibition case back and carries a 50-hour power reserve and a date function at 6 o’clock.
Cumulatively, the three limited-edition designs reflect the essence of Argylle, capturing the suspense, sophistication and glamour synonymous with the film.
Matthew Vaughn comments: “I first partnered with Bremont on “Kingsman: The Secret Service” and am delighted to have them with us again on this limited edition collection, to celebrate the release of my new film “Argylle”.
Bremont’s co-founder Nick English comments, “Crafting this limited-edition collection with Matthew Vaughn for Argylle has been an exciting journey. The watches are a true reflection of the collaboration’s spirit, combining precision engineering with the captivating narrative of the film. Each piece is a testament to the shared commitment to excellence between Bremont and Vaughn.”
