Van Cleef & Arpels Presents Its New Frivole Creations: Shimmering Blossoms

Inspired by the beauty of flora, Van Cleef & Arpels celebrates it with new Frivole creations echoing nature’s vitality. In 2022, this jewelry collection reveals colored stones on seven pieces in yellow and rose gold set with rubies and emeralds. Each jewel offers a consummate combination of savoir-faire, from gem selection to mirror polishing. With their infinite reflections, the new designs pay tribute to the positive vision of life that is so dear to the Maison.

For the first time in the Frivole collection, the emerald reveals its deep hues in three luminously pure creations. The vivid color of the gemstone combines harmoniously with yellow gold on miniature motifs. A bracelet, a pendant, and earrings illuminate the figure with a radiant glow.

Selected by Van Cleef & Arpels’ gemologists for their intense green, emeralds evoke the vitality of a precious garden, interacting here with the warmth of yellow gold. The sunny metal is meticulously polished, creating a multitude of reflections that give the piece a remarkable shine.

• A triptych of warmly colored flowers

This year, rose gold converses with rubies in the Frivole collection. The softly shaded precious metal is paired for the occasion with the rarest corundum, chosen by the Maison’s experts for its deep red color.

Delicately placed on a fine chain bracelet or pendant, the miniature mirror-polished corollas unfurl around a flamboyant pistil. The gracefully curved heart-shaped petals convey the movement that enlivens each flower. The earrings, imbued with life, complete this jewelry set with brilliance.

• A multicolored bouquet

With its polychromatic floral composition, the new Frivole ring embellishes the hand with panache. Five flowers with ruby hearts and three with emerald pistils, subtly placed at different heights, create a profusion of colorful elegance. These precious floral motifs blossom against a carpet of yellow and rose gold whose union amplifies the play of light. Emblematic of Van Cleef & Arpels’ style, the impression of movement that radiates from the jewel evokes the vivacity of the plant world.

Savoir-faire in the service of color

Colored stones, which have been very valued at Van Cleef & Arpels since it was founded in 1906, illuminate this year’s Frivole collection. The Maison has selected rubies and emeralds using the same quality criteria as for High Jewelry. The gemologists work in daylight to reveal the gemstones’ colors as accurately as possible. Rubies ranging from orange-red to pink-red and deep green emeralds have been chosen for these creations. Special care has been taken in cutting and matching the stones to create harmonious sets that highlight the beauty of each gem.

Mirror polishing, a traditional technique used by Van Cleef & Arpels since the 1920s, is delicately executed by hand on each petal. It enhances the radiance of the yellow gold and rose gold, creating intense reflections, as if the pieces were sparkling under the sun’s rays. The jewelers’ artistry is also displayed through the assembly of the eight flowers composing the ring. The poetry of the piece stems from the combination of the two shades of gold, requiring special attention from the craftsmen, as well as the meticulous placement of each motif, playing on subtle offsets.
