Luxferity, 09.01.2024
Renowned Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer announced the addition of Liu Haoran as its newest brand ambassador. At just 26 years old, Liu Haoran has garnered widespread acclaim for his exceptional acting skills and distinctive style, making him a leading figure among the younger generation of Chinese actors.
From his role as the boy ‘Song Ge’ in the neighboring class in Beijing Love Story to the young detective ‘Qin Feng’ in Detective Chinatown, the entrepreneurial youth ‘Wei Jinbei’ in Coffee or tea? and the motorcycle racer ‘Wu Renyao’ in Only Fools Rush In, Liu Haoran crafted numerous impressive and iconic characters on the silver screen. Known for his casual yet confident demeanor, passion for sports, and relentless pursuit of excellence, Liu Haoran embodies traits that resonate with TAG Heuer’s values.
Liu Haoran’s connection with TAG Heuer may have been destined when he chose “Turbo” as his English name. The original meaning of Turbo refers to an essential component in high-performance engines, especially in racing cars. This choice serves as a clear testament to his passion for motorsports. TAG Heuer, with its 164-year history and heritage, has a deep connection with the world of racing. For decades, the brand has consistently supported some of the greatest F1 teams, legendary drivers, and iconic racetracks. Undoubtedly, this shared-passion struck a chord with Liu Haoran.
Expressing his thoughts on the collaboration, Liu Haoran said, “TAG Heuer has a rich heritage in watchmaking, consistently leading in innovation. Its connection to motorsports is also profoundly appealing to me. We share the same values, constantly challenging ourselves and pushing boundaries, making this collaboration with TAG Heuer a natural and exciting decision for me.”
In the first advertising campaign of the partnership, Liu Haoran is wearing the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Year of the Dragon. As the 2024 Chinese New Year approaches, TAG Heuer joins forces with the new brand ambassador from China to present this unique timepiece that combines the richness of Chinese culture and the brand’s racing DNA, symbolizing a new journey for the brand in China.
Launched in 1963, the TAG Heuer Carrera is a racing-inspired chronograph created by Jack Heuer and named after the Carrera Panamericana road race of the 1950s. Today, this iconic timepiece is recognized as a symbol of aspiration, achievement, and refined taste. Crafted in gold and steel, the TAG Heuer Carrera chronograph the Year of Dragon limited editions pay homage to the success embodied by the Chinese Dragon, which unmistakably parallels TAG Heuer’s Carrera success story. The steel version of the watch boasts a sunray-brushed silver dial while the gold version radiates with its sunraybrushed 18K 5N pink gold-plated dial. Both are adorned with rhodium-plated and 18K 5N pink gold plated indexes accentuated by a sumptuous red lacquer creating a harmonious blend. The distinct red “azuré” subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock add a captivating contrast with the dial, mirroring the emblematic reverse panda design.
The discreet yet significant calligraphic dragon character at 6 o’clock serves as an emblem of tradition but also exemplifies TAG Heuer’s commitment to honoring heritage within a contemporary design. The caseback design is fully customized to reveal a printed Chinese Dragon figure around the sapphire glass. Around it, are special engravings to indicate the watch’s limited release, “Limited Edition” along “One of 300” for the steel version and “One of 50” for the more exclusive 18K 5N pink gold version.
Embarking on the journey of a new year, the collaboration between TAG Heuer and Liu Haoran injects fresh vitality into the brand. More exciting moments will be unveiled in the near future, reflecting the pioneering spirit of breakthrough to a global audience.
