This announcement follows another major NYFF recognition: Jim Jarmusch’s Father Mother Sister Brother, co-produced by Saint Laurent Productions, has been selected as the festival's Centerpiece screening—solidifying the maison’s influential presence across the international film circuit.

Luxury Meets Auteur Cinema: The Rise of Saint Laurent Productions

With Saint Laurent Productions, Anthony Vaccarello has redefined the boundaries of luxury branding, becoming the first creative director of a heritage fashion house to fully integrate cinematic production into the brand’s DNA. Since its debut, the film division has produced an array of critically acclaimed works, collaborating with some of the most iconic and visionary names in contemporary cinema.

From Pedro Almodóvar’s Strange Way of Life and Jean-Luc Godard’s posthumous Trailer of the Film That Will Never Exist, which captivated audiences at Cannes 2023, to the brand’s triple presence at Cannes 2024 with Emilia Perez by Jacques Audiard, Parthenope by Paolo Sorrentino, and The Shrouds by David Cronenberg—Saint Laurent Productions is redefining what luxury storytelling looks like in the 21st century.

Inside The Fence: Claire Denis' Haunting Vision

The Fence, Claire Denis’ latest work, is a psychological and political drama set against the backdrop of a sprawling public works project in West Africa. The story unfolds within a guarded compound where Horn, the project manager (played by Isaach de Bankolé), and Cal, a young engineer (Tom Blyth), are forced to reckon with a mysterious visitor—Alboury—who arrives to claim the body of his brother, a laborer who died on site earlier that day.

As tensions mount through the night, Horn's new bride Leone (portrayed by Mia McKenna-Bruce) becomes an unwilling witness to a slow unraveling, one that exposes the intersecting violences of colonization, masculinity, and power. The cast is led by Isaach de Bankolé, with Matt Dillon and a commanding ensemble.

Denis, whose cinematic voice is synonymous with poetic realism and postcolonial introspection, brings her signature visual style and storytelling nuance to the production, deepened by the collaboration with longtime cinematographer Agnès Godard.

Claire Denis: A Master of Modern Cinema

Born in France and raised in several African countries, Claire Denis has long channeled her cross-cultural experiences into poignant, award-winning cinema. Her debut feature Chocolat (1988) premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was lauded by American critics for its lyrical exploration of colonial memory. Since then, Denis has consistently delivered landmark films—from Beau Travail, ranked among the greatest films of all time by Sight and Sound, to Stars at Noon, winner of the Grand Prix at Cannes 2022.

Her latest collaboration with Saint Laurent Productions represents a union of high fashion and high art—a pairing that continues to elevate the maison’s cultural cachet.

A Legacy Beyond the Runway

With Saint Laurent Productions, Anthony Vaccarello has not only expanded the scope of a luxury fashion brand but has also positioned Saint Laurent as a true cultural institution—one where fashion, cinema, and art converge. The house's commitment to auteur-driven narratives reflects a long-standing reverence for individuality, craftsmanship, and creative integrity—values that define both its collections and its cinematic endeavors.

The Fence is presented by Vixens, Curiosa Films, and Saint Laurent Productions, and produced in association with Goodfellas and Arte France Cinéma.
