Panerai’s most emblematic collection, the Luminor, is reimagined in a sleek, monochromatic ceramic execution. With functionality and aesthetic purity in focus, PAM01674 embodies a minimal elegance where the “less is more philosophy” is reflected through innovative use of materials and a refined design approach.

“The Luminor GMT Power Reserve ceramica encapsulates Panerai’s dedication to the concept of functional design. Since the beginning, our timepieces have been created to fulfill specific functions expressed through a very particular design. Features such as the crown-protecting device and the dial luminosity, originally designed for functionality, have now become integral to the design of the Luminor. This contemporary timepiece, blending Swiss technical prowess and minimal Italian design, seamlessly aligns with the spirit of Design Miami” says Jean-Marc Pontroué, CEO of Panerai.

Both the 44mm case and bracelet are crafted from the same ceramic material to achieve a mono-material and muted monotone look. The Panerai ceramic, based on high-tech Zirconium Oxide powder (ZrO2), undergoes a thorough process of injection moulding, shaping with diamond wheels, and finally, sandblasting, boasting a hardness up to five times greater than steel, strong resistance to high temperatures, scratches, and corrosion. The complex process adopted by Panerai in working with this material results in a timepiece that captures the Maison’s sporting yet sophisticated essence.

Powered by the automatic P.9012 calibre, the Luminor GMT Power Reserve ceramica offers a comprehensive suite of functions. The movement features central hour, GMT, and minute hands, small seconds dial at 9 o’clock, a power reserve indicator at 5 o’clock, and a date window at 3 o’clock. The GMT feature adds a new dimension to the watch’s usability, allowing for the tracking of dual time zones, the quintessential complication for the most cosmopolitan of explorers. The power reserve indicator is a distinctive feature, with ‘ORE’ (Italian for ‘hours’) elegantly inscribed on the dial, a nod to Panerai’s Italian flair.

With a power reserve of three days – the standard for Panerai’s proprietary movements – the watch’s energy is stored in two spring barrels, wound by an oscillating weight that operates in both directions. Consisting of 231 components, including 31 jewels, the calibre measures 13¾ lignes in diameter and a mere 6mm in thickness. The balance, secured by a bridge with twin supports, oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), ensuring precise and reliable timekeeping.

With a water resistance of 10 BAR (~100 meters), this watch has been rigorously tested, subjecting it to a pressure up to 25% greater than the guaranteed water resistance value to ensure it fulfills Panerai’s stringent standards.

PAM01674 features a matt black sandwich dial with indices and hands treated with grey Super-LumiNova® X1, a subtle nod to the brand’s naval roots, providing optimal readability in low-light conditions, with the GMT hand glowing in a Super-LumiNova® X1 vivid blue hue displaying a second-time zone. The new bracelet showcases a clean and linear design, drawing inspiration from Panerai’s bracelets of the early 2000s. This modern interpretation features a sleeker, more minimal aesthetic that precisely integrates with the ceramic case.
