Following its debut in Milan in 2023, the "White Canvas" project invites contemporary artists to transform the classic all-white leather low-top LV Trainer into a blank canvas for their creative expression and continues to celebrate the Maison's deep connection to the art world, sparking a dynamic exchange between diverse artistic practices.

The collection will be launched on September 23, 2024, at select Louis Vuitton stores across China, followed by a release at Louis Vuitton’s Paris Galeries Lafayette store on December 1, 2024.

The ‘White Canvas: LV Trainer in Residence’ Collection

First appearing on the Spring-Summer 2019 Men’s show, the LV Trainer fuses the authentic codes of basketball shoes with the iconography and savoir-faire of the Maison. As the ultimate luxury trainer, it has appeared in a wealth of adaptations across the men’s collection of Louis Vuitton and become an icon in the sneaker community.

In the two LV Trainers created by artist Zhou Yilun, he replaces conventional design language with flowing pigments, presenting the footwear in a vibrant, unfinished state. They seem to be casually placed in the artist's studio, accidentally becoming part of a work in progress, participating in the act of painting and the process of sculpting. The moment these shoes are worn is the moment this artwork is truly complete. Each pair is meticulously handcrafted and hand-painted in the Maison's Italian footwear atelier, Fiesso d'Artico. The interweaving of hand-dyed gradients and flowing pigments creates an illusion of speed on the upper. The brand logo, molded from hand-pinched plasticine, is fixed on the shoelaces, adding a whimsical touch. Zhou Yilun aptly names his creations 42.5°C (orange and black) and -8.6°C (pink and blue), drawing public attention to climate change.

Wen Na reimagines the LV Trainer through two captivating designs: "Wave" and "Cloud". Using mural painting techniques, Wen Na vividly depicts ocean waves and auspicious clouds on the sneakers' uppers. Inspired by the green waves often found in traditional Chinese imagery and frequently appearing in Wen Na's work, "Wave" imbues the shoes with a sense of motion. The wave design is strategically placed on the forefoot of one shoe and the heel of the other, creating the illusion of a running stride – one foot stepping onto a wave as the other lifts from its crest. "Cloud" embraces Louis Vuitton's classic color palette, incorporating vibrant hues and lively little deity patterns. For Wen Na, clouds embody a sense of leisure and freedom, representing a natural, almost mystical state of being. Each pair is meticulously hand-painted by artisans in the Maison's Italian footwear atelier, Fiesso d'Artico.
