Louis Vuitton: The Capucines Bag
Luxferity, 12.04.2022
This icon of the Louis Vuitton wardrobe embraces all lifestyles. Embodied by the radiant Miranda Kerr, the Capucines bag enhances any look with its strong architectural lines.
A companion from day to night, this beacon of savoir-faire pays tribute to Louis Vuitton’s very first boutique on the Rue Neuve-des-Capucines in Paris. Adorned with the iconic LV signature, the bag is regularly reimagined, with this summer’s interpretation a reassertion of contemporaneity and exceptional craftsmanship.
Available in BB or Mini sizes, the new Capucines boasts a stunning Taurillon leather detachable strap braided with gold chain, in a range of bold shades – Orange Tonic lined with Rose Jasmin, or Apple Green softened by Lavender. Held by the handle or slung over the shoulder, it can be creatively worn and styled.
Two outstanding models join this collection. The first, available as a Mini version, features cream leather entirely embellished with green embroidery. This braided effect gives the piece a textured, three-dimensional surface, and required more than 68,000 stitches. The second model is just as painstakingly crafted: the Capucines’ white leather has been perforated and then bejewelled with Monogram flowers to create a Broderie Anglaise motif. This beautifully conjures up images of the immaculate cotton silhouettes from Nicolas Ghesquière’s ready-to-wear collection.
Available in two sizes and two essential shades (Bleu Nuit and Rose Jasmin), the Capucines demonstrates exclusive savoir-faire: the handle and the LV letters on the front of the bag were made according to the same technique used by Murano glass blowers. The different colours were captured in resin and mixed before being hot-formed into the desired shape. Only the finest artisans could create such a delicate, natural handle shape that features different hues according to the light.
Last but not least, the Rue des Capucines model is dressed in a timelessly chic natural canvas this season, enhanced with black or brown Taurillon trims for the MM version, or with Jaune Plume trims for the BB version. Leather covers the handle, the flap and the back of the shoulder strap, while the latter is embroidered with Monogram flowers and the words ‘4 rue des Capucines’. This single feature requires no less than four hours of work and more than 100,000 stitches in the Louis Vuitton workshops.
Starring the glowing Miranda Kerr, the campaign was shot in the unique light of Los Angeles. From a tennis court to the spotlights of a Californian night, the model showcases the Capucines in all its splendour before handing it over to a new muse for the next season... And thus, continuing the story of this emblematic Louis Vuitton bag.
