Much like the Academy Awards, which shine a spotlight on the top talents in the film industry, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) serves as the ultimate celebration of excellence in watchmaking. Often referred to as the "Oscars of Watchmaking," this prestigious event annually honors the most innovative and exceptional timepieces from around the world. This year, the GPHG officially nominated Franck Muller’s remarkable Long Island Evolution Master Jumper in the Men's Complication category.
Révélation
The Long Island Evolution Master Jumper is distinguished for its triple jumping complication that reinvents the way of displaying time. Hours, minutes and date are indicated through a complex mechanism of jumping discs, offering instant readability and a futuristic aesthetic. A world first, the jumping hours and minutes are complemented by a jumping date. This creation, without hands, is a watchmaking feat requiring perfect precision and coordination of all the gears, as well as exceptional craftsmanship during assembly. This timepiece is the result of an unceasing quest for excellence, combining modern aesthetics and mechanical prowess that includes 371 components and required 4 years of research and development. Through this exceptional work, Franck Muller offers a new interpretation of the flow of time, both technical and aesthetic, while demonstrating the breadth of its watchmaking expertise.
Each year, watchmakers from all corners of the globe submit their finest creations to the GPHG competition, which features several categories. Members of the GPHG Academy vote to select the six official nominees in each category, and from these, an expert jury chooses the best timepieces of the year.
