Daniel Roth Brand
Daniel Roth Tourbillon Platinum: The Art Of Haute Horlogerie Reimagined
Luxferity, 19.11.2025

The name Daniel Roth is synonymous with understated luxury, meticulous craftsmanship, and independent Swiss watchmaking. In 2025, the brand continues its golden revival with the Tourbillon Platinum, a striking homage to the iconic 1988 Tourbillon reference 2187/C187. This latest creation epitomizes the brand’s mantra: La Montre Objet d’Art.

Reviving an Iconic Legacy
Following its 2023 renaissance, Daniel Roth reintroduced its founder’s favorite complications: the Tourbillon and the Extra Plat. Initially unveiled in a 20-piece subscription series in yellow gold with Clou de Paris guilloché, the collection expanded to rose gold editions featuring pinstripe guilloché. Both models share signature design codes: the refined double-ellipse case and bespoke in-house movements, the DR001 and DR002, crafted under the expert guidance of Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton.

Crossroads Deep Blue

The Tourbillon Platinum elevates this lineage with a contemporary aesthetic, blending historical fidelity with modern refinement.

Platinum: The Noble Metal of Watchmaking
Platinum has long been reserved for a brand’s most exceptional creations, prized for its rarity, density, and enduring allure. Unlike gold, platinum requires specialized tooling and meticulous handcrafting, taking up to three times longer to fabricate a case.

Crossroads Secret Alloy

“Platinum is a heavyweight material in every sense… it is often reserved for special creations,” explains Matthieu Hegi, Artistic Director of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton.
For Daniel Roth, platinum was the only choice to reinterpret the Tourbillon in a white metal, reinforcing the watch’s rarity and gravitas.

The Double-Ellipse Case: A Signature Reimagined
The Tourbillon Platinum retains the double-ellipse case, first conceived by Daniel Roth in 1988. Combining square and circular elements, this design perfectly frames the large tourbillon, balancing innovation with timeless elegance. Subtle refinements include ergonomically curved lugs and a slimmer profile, enabled by the in-house DR001 calibre. The result is a watch that honors the original while embracing a vision for the future.

A Masterpiece Dial
The dial, crafted from solid white gold and finished in anthracite, showcases DANIEL ROTH’s linear guilloché, painstakingly applied by hand using a straight-line engine. Each element, from the 925 sterling silver chapter ring to the signature ‘moustache’ on either side, is meticulously finished, often taking up to three days per dial. These artisanal techniques ensure every piece is as unique as it is luxurious.

Calibre DR001: The Heart of the Tourbillon
The DR001 movement, exclusively developed for Daniel Roth, continues the brand’s tradition of haute horlogerie. Its 206 components are hand-finished, even those hidden beneath the dial. The movement features an 80-hour power reserve, reduced thickness for a sleeker wrist presence, and gold chatons securing jewels in the gear train. The sapphire crystal caseback allows collectors to admire the exquisite anglage, perlage, and Côtes de Genève finishing—hallmarks of traditional Swiss craftsmanship.
“Daniel Roth was a true pioneer of independent watchmaking. Our vision is to honor his legacy while elevating subtle details for a modern audience,” say Navas and Barbasini.
