Diotima Presents Its New Fall-Winter 2024 Collection

What if the collection unfolded within the span of a single day, as if time could be manipulated like a film. The day would begin the night before, at 4am, at the end of a long night of partying. The protagonist has become a little undone—her looped fringe peplum detaches, her crochet dress cascades lusciously down her body, and her knotted macramé dissolves into fringe or explodes into pompoms. Day breaks and we see her slowly button back up with crisp shirts, with strips of fabric connected by decorative hand stitches; sharp tailored wool trousers with an embroidered tuxedo stripe that references our signature broderie anglaise; tunics and trousers in yarn-dyed stripe wool with crochet inserts. We follow her until it is again, night. She wears a wool cocktail dress with holes at the waist and hip, trimmed with tubular hand made spaghetti, or a vest with flowers crafted from lurex ribbon with centers of crystal, or her trusty crystal mesh.

We see this woman in a global context. Her winter wardrobe reflects the nuance and complexity of the style of Jamaican women. Her knitwear in soft merino wool conceal and reveal with carefully placed intarsia openings that reference the signature grosso mesh pattern. Her coats are in structured Japanese wool with a fringed belt or Harris Tweed with hand stitching along seams.

The colours are “Diotima Red” – highly saturated hibiscus– fluo orange, ginger pink and cashew yellow; muted taro, mushroom and smoke; or rich cumin, maroon, coffee and black, punctuated by flashes of metal with pyrite and crystals.
