Carolina Herrera unveiled a world of grandeur on 75th and Madison with the stunning renovation of its townhouse Flagship boutique––the first retail concept by Creative Director Wes Gordon. The opening coincides with the rollout of new shop-in-shop environments in Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue, marking a global relaunch across all retail and wholesale channels reflective of the refreshed brand vision under new creative leadership.

The majestic three-story landmark on 75th and Madison was built in 1925 by architect George F. Pelham and became home to Carolina Herrera in 2000. Wes Gordon’s exquisite sensibility for bold refinement shines through in every wondrous detail of the townhouse renovation, reflecting Carolina Herrera’s original retail philosophy––one of gracefully inviting beauty and warmth. Collaboratively designed and developed over two years with architect Andre Mellone of Studio Mellone, the townhouse is an immersive expression of character unique to Carolina Herrera and the Madison Avenue landscape.

Inspired by the stunning original architecture of the building, the renovation was designed to highlight each historic detail. The perfect symmetry of the 75th street facade is celebrated with new double doors and an entrance on Madison Avenue, where guests are guided to the latest ready-to-wear and evening pieces upon hexagonal stone reminiscent of the Roman home of artist Cy Twombly––an homage to the House code of black and white polka dots. The sweeping circular staircase of blush-pink Venetian plaster leads to an exclusive fragrance installation alongside runway collections, leading to the third-floor penthouse, saturated in color with thoughtfully-hued fitting rooms and a sun-drenched grand salon in which to lounge and linger.

Iconic 70’s pieces, French antiques, and big Cocteau-style rugs mix with masters of modern design, from Arbus to Jansen, for a joyful space of eclectic objects that feels like a grand home. The curvy lines of Jean Royere’s furniture offset the fun, modern fabric from Dedar and custom pieces inspired by outdoor patio furniture. Gordon worked in collaboration with interior designer Chiara de Rege, sourcing and creating pieces from around the world for a unique mix. “This was really an opportunity for me to obsess and play with every detail down to door hinges and upholstery trims,” he said, “I wanted it to be dreamy and spectacular, unlike anything else on the street.”

The store atmosphere evokes the opulent-yet-gracious sensibility reflected in the graceful lifestyle of Mrs. Herrera and her family. “They’ve created these wonderful environments with walls covered in silk, beautiful works of art and antiques. But, they also raised their children, have dogs and grandchildren running around––they’re homes that people really use. Each room heard laughter. We wanted to create the same environment here.”

This signature perspective defines the gracious new retail concept: a personal invitation into the warmth of Carolina Herrera's home on 75th and Madison.
